9 drivers for tonight’s F1 and Woody warmed up for the “Worlds” by taking TQ with a total of 70.89 from Bob 2nd with 70.78. We had 4 finals tonight and Mick, Geoff and Mike lined up for the D. The top 2 would move up and it turned out that Mick and Mike (Mike on about his 3rd car of the night) took the honours, Mike winning by nearly 2 laps from Mick. These two joined Corky and Trev for the C and in a not very quick race, Corky won with 32.50 from Mike on 31.55, Trev 3rd on 30.55 and Mick 4th on 27.22. Mike’s luck ran out in the B when he lined up with Corky to race with Chris and Kev. This turned out to be a cracker with Kev taking the lead from the off and Chris sitting 2 or 3 feet back. It stayed like this all the way to the end with Chris waiting for a mistake that didn’t happen. Both Chris and Kev had faultless drives with no offs and recorded the only 36s of the night, Kev (36.40) winning by 6 parts from Chris (36.34). Corky had a quiet race in 3rd and Mike finished up 4th. “A” finalists, Woody and Bob, were looking suitably worried, but with Chris and Kev taking Blue and Yellow lanes respectively they reckoned they should be OK. Not so, disaster struck for them both on lap 8, a coming together with a bit of slow marshalling saw Kev take the lead with Chris not far behind - again. It stayed like that until lap 29 when Kev, with a decent lead, had on off and another bit of clumsy marshalling (car in wrong lane) let Chris through with only seconds left. That’s the way it finished, a win for Chris (35.49 - from BLUE lane) from Kev (34.92). Woody couldn’t make up his time lost and took 3rd with 30.90 and Bob retired early to take 4th.
That makes a significant change in the Championship, with Chris replacing a poor score with a 50 pointer, he has stretched his lead to 11 points over Bob with one round to go. It’s Chris’s to lose.
