Change of Formula for tonight’s Saloon racing - Group 12 power replacing Falcons. 10 drivers turned out and it was good to see Brian Saunders arriving to race and hoping for a better result than last time he came. Qualifying format remains the same with best 3 from 4 to count. Woody was on form though and posted the best total to TQ with 117.35 laps. Brian got on the pace quickly after doing a lot of practice laps on Blue lane and he posted 2nd fastest with 116.64, interestingly his Blue total virtually matched his Red total and he set a new best lane total for Blue by over a lap with 39.26. Bob was just behind Brian on 116.50 to take 3rd spot and Kev was a further lap back in 4th and just pipping Chris for a place in the A by 9 parts.

Again we had a C final between Roger and Geoff, which was a bit closer than normal, although Roger (31.86) took the win, Geoff (30.35) drove much better to finish just a lap and a half behind Rog. The B final had Chris, Corky, Mick and Trev lining up and this proved a bit of a stroll for Chris (37.39), taking the win by 1½ laps from Mick (35.83) in 2nd. Trev (34.62) battled valiantly on Blue but couldn’t quite catch Mick and Corky’s car expired at half way to leave him in 4th spot.

In the A final Woody saved some tyres on his best car, expecting a strong challenge from Brian, who chose White lane although this was his slowest lane in qualy. Woody raced off into an early lead pursued by Brian and Bob, but Brian didn’t look confident on White and Bob got past and pulled away. Woody ran out a comfortable winner with 38.88 laps from Bob a couple of laps back on 36.84 and Brian took 3rd with 34.40 and Kev had a mare on Blue to finish 4th on 32.26.

So, Brian gained a bit of respectability with a 3rd place finish overall and, as he’s now moving back to Milton Keynes, we’re likely to see him racing regularly again soon.
