The track was in good nick for tonight’s Sports car racing. With holidays still taking their toll and Mike ‘the judge’ Snell recovering from a minor operation on his elbow, we only had 6 racers tonight. Bob took TQ recording a best lap 0f 4.339, just .003 off the lap record for Production Sports. We ran 3 x 2 man finals and Chris joined Bob with a time of 4.412. The C final was contested between Geoff and Kev, both having really bad nights, which Kev won by 5 laps from Geoff. Woody was up against Trev in the B final and he was generally a lap quicker than Trev in all segments and eventually took the win and 3rd overall setting 146.01 for the A final. Trev finished up 3 ½ laps back for 4th overall. The A final went off at a modest pace with Bob’s 37 to Chris’s 36 but got gradually quicker. Bob then did a 38 to Chris’s 37 and in segment 3 both recorded 39s on the counters to give Bob a 2 lap lead going into segment 4. Bob had his eye on Woody’s record total of 152.90 laps and so needed a 38.91 to take it, bearing in mind he was finishing on Red lane. With the pace really good he looked well on course at half way but one off put the pressure on. With the clock running down he went into the big loop just as the power went off and finished up 5 parts short - that one off made all the difference! Chris’s total of 149.96 was good enough for second overall.
Let’s hope every one’s back for next week’s saloon racing and maybe the Judge will be back as well if he recovers OK - tonight didn’t seem the same without his constant “red please” while practicing !!!
