This being a spare week in the calendar the eight drivers who turned up decided to run a team race of 4 x 2 man teams with segmented format. We welcomed back “the Judge” from his adventures ‘down under’ and he teamed up with Chris. Trev and Mick teamed up, Bob and Geoff, and Corky and Kev comprised the other 3 teams.

The first race of the night was remarkable, in that all 4 drivers, Chris, Trev, Bob and Corky all topped 40 laps and not one of them had a single ‘off’ ! Chris lead the way with a stunning 43.37 and this put him and Mike in pole position. Racing from then on was a little less remarkable but consistently quick with plenty of 40+ segments being recorded. Even Geoff, who was sharing Bob’s car, looked as quick as anyone at times making himself difficult to pass.

Chris and Mike steadily built up a lead from the others and going into the last race of the night they had about a four lap lead over Corky and Kev, all Mike had to do was keep it on the track. He was doing just that until brain-fade or jet-lag kicked in on lap 25 and he launched his car off the bridge, into the wall and onto the floor ! When it was eventually retrieved it was making some ‘orrible noises and was clearly bent, but he struggled on to the finish. This allowed Kev the opportunity to catch and pass him and take the lead overall and go on to win overall by 4 laps. Mike was trying to hang on to second place but he couldn’t quite do it and Mick passed him with a few seconds to go, so that Mick and Trev stole 2nd place by 13 parts.

So, another good night of fun and fast racing concluded the Winter 2011 series. Chris proved to be the quickest driver of the night, recording the fastest laps on all lanes including a new best time on Blue of 4.170.
