Two ‘newbies’ tonight - Paul Dexter has long been a visitor but tonight he took the plunge and decided to have a go. Also, Mick Davies brought a mate, Oliver, along to try his hand. In qualy, Chris went off first and set a decent total of 14.12 but this was beaten in the third run by Kevin who posted 14.24. It wasn’t ‘til Woody went in eighth that another 14 was posted, his 14.11 was then beaten by Corky who took pole with 14.33. Charlie was last up and his 14.22 put him third.

Inevitably, Paul and Oliver lined up in the C final along with Roger and Trev. This race belonged to Trev as he relentlessly pulled away from Roger and finished some 20 laps ahead on 166.67 to Roger’s 146.99. The battle of the newbies went to Oliver and he finished up averaging around 30 laps per segment with 131.41. Paul found the brakes difficult to come to terms with but still managed a reasonable total of 122.92 on his first attempt.

The B final saw Woody, Mick, Bob and Kev lining up together and this turned out to be a close one. Woody set the pace with a 41 and followed this up with 42, 44 and a 42 to finish up just a lap and a bit short of the current record with 183.18. Mick wasn’t too far behind, his series of 42, 42, 41 and 41 put him only 3 laps down on Woody. Bob took third place with 175.24 and Kev fourth on 173.44.

So, Woody had set the pace for the A final - Corky, Kevin, Charlie and Chris. Charlie was the one to challenge Woody’s total the closest. Needing to average mid 32s he started off with two 42’s and a 43 and going into the last he need 41.97 to beat Woody. Lap 15 was probably the clincher, his only off lost him a second or so but despite lapping consistently in the 4.2’s he couldn’t quite make up that second and finished up just 38 parts behind Woody’s total and ended up 2nd overall. Chris had a slowish start but picked up with 3 x 42s to second in the race and 4th overall. Kevin couldn’t match his qualifying pace and took 4th in the race and 8th overall.

A win for Woody, then, from the B final with Charlie taking second and Mick’s B final total was good enough for third place overall with Chris fourth.
